I’m excited to be one of the presenters. In addition to having the opportunity to interact with workshop attendees and share my writing journey during the panel discussion, I will be leading a workshop on memoir writing.
In the memoir breakout session, we’ll take a look at many possible story lines and themes as well as the essential components in memoir writing. I’ll provide a list of resources that helped me on my writing journey.
Everyone has a story. Writing is a powerful way to access the wisdom contained in our life experiences. I received a whole new perspective on my life. What a transforming gift that proved to be. The world needs our stories and our wisdom.
Even if you don’t want to publish your story widely, it will be a valuable legacy for your descendants. Knowing the stock from which we came is a moving experience as popular television shows like “Finding Your Roots” and “Who Do You Think You Are” demonstrate.
I wish I knew the stories behind the names and dates in my genealogical chart. As we grow older, we realize we can learn a lot about ourselves by knowing our ancestors joys, struggles, successes, and what their lives meant to them. I share a common experience with many others … wishing I could ask my parents and grandparents to fill in the gaps in my understanding.
Come see how you can benefit from writing your story for yourself, and if you choose, for others. I think you’ll find it a worthwhile endeavor.
